We are still working in earnest on the gRPC-Rust implementation. We expect to have a demo at gRPConf next month <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/grpconf/> and will also be covering it at our upcoming meetup <https://www.meetup.com/grpcio/events/309610216/>. And if you are interested in technical details, you can follow our progress in the current Tonic repo <https://github.com/hyperium/tonic> issues/PRs.
