The output looks like that:

   Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB   
   lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible   
   device or file completions.

That is, whatever I do the input appears in the line with all the 'sss'.
Happens within a screen session and with a plain xterm.
