Unfortunately, grub-install fails for i386-pc with this version. This
issue was reported in an earlier thread on this list.

sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/mnt/gentoo /dev/loop0
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: error: `/usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/kernel.img' is
miscompiled: its start address is 0x9074 instead of 0x9000: ld.gold
bug?.
