That symptom suggests that it was unable to load a shared library.
What happens if you run:
globus-scheduler-event-generator -s Loadleveler
(The capitalization of loadleveler should match the name of the
subdir $GL/etc/gram-Loadleveler, I might have it wrong here. I can't
remember if they capitalize the second L or not)
