I am using fedora2.6
   
  I know that choate/cognito has to  be replaced by the machine names
  but lik [EMAIL PROTECTED] means that user is globus and cognito is machine 
name , then what does cognito% mean.What user ?

That's because choate.mcs.anl.gov has a firewall and you can't talk to 
it. You need to replace choate/cognito with your machine names 
wherever they appear.

That's the whole point of the quickstart - if you follow the 
instructions, you will have started a GridFTP server by that point. 
That's what the whole "2.4. Set up GridFTP" section is about.
