Likely the hardest option would be trying to only modify the
scheduling provider with the additional information that belongs in
the compute element provider.  I'd say either write a new provider (as
mentioned below), or modify the compute element provider (which is
either Ganglia, Hawkeye, Clumon, Nagios, etc).  Others can chime in
too.

You're going to have to look around for the docs on configuring it as
I don't have them handy.  You can start here:

There was some command line tool to generate configuration
(glue-mds-configure or something), but I didn't use it.

Yes.  This will probably be easier -- at least if I were doing it, I'd
try to go that route :-)
