This is not my experience. I run with "Automatically Save Changes" and "Keep backup file when saving" set and run off a Windows 7 laptop with 3GB RAM, 2.4GHz CPU, using Firefox 3.0.10. My mGTD file is 714Kb large and is zippy to work with - I don't notice any delays at all.
