That's why I'd go for extracting the fd from the CHANNEL object and stuffing it into a GIOChannel. They can co-exist peacefully (of course you will use the ssh_* functions to operate the CHANNEL when GIO* signals any conditions. It's not really that much code and I prefer to have that explicit in my app. I've done it already with an asynchronous libpq interface. It's quite feasible to keep things neat and clean. Regarding your other post... for non-POSIX systems, I dunno (lucky me!). How does Windows select()?
