Tag, you are it! :) A couple years ago I totally failed in fixing this bug in GtkTable (I just made things worse and never committed anything): https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gtk-devel-list/2010-April/msg00062.html I have no idea if GtkGrid has the same bug - but if you are fixing this kind of thing, taking care of this would be greatly appreciated.
