I will look into it tonight. Your patch doesn't solve it the right way.

I caught this same failure on my machine too, and got quite a bit of debugging info. To my dismay, it was highly reproducible; crashing the program over and over within seconds of launching.
In my case, I was able to track down a single item in the downloads file which was causing this, and have since been running without error.
Following the stdout messages the sequence of events went some thing like: bad token, header dump, buf != null.
The bad token and downloads entry were:
03/02/28 11:11:32 (WARNING): vendor string "gtk-gnutella/0.92u (25/02/2003; X11; Linux 2.4.19 i686)" has wrong token "Pl+l6RD+Ak4xJQKUUHtzBQNUB8R/z6WS16db; XJ8=": Bad length
And,

(IP, SHA1, and filename omitted)
I'd include more debugging info, but it sounds like you can reproduce this. Let me know if you'd like it, I'll send it to you.
BTW. this error was still in the latest cvs. (I haven't checked out christian's patch yet.)
Peace, and good luck, Clayton
