This mode could be controlled by the existing 'Expert mode' switch in the
Config / User interface pane, as it already does show/hide some of the
advanced settings.

LimeWire's search/results tabs interface is not bad. I would much prefer
a layout like this:
Search for:
Tab1 Tab2 Tab3
Tab4 Tab5 Tab6
than the existing
Search for:
Tab1 Tab2 Tab3 < >
For one thing, because moving the focus to a results tab clears the
indication of the number of new results (since the tab was last highlighted)
and when using the arrows this clears every tab as you get to it. In
addition when you have more than 3 or 4 searches open it is tiresome indeed
to scroll between them.
I would also vote for having some way to see the number of new results
(perhaps in total) while looking at other tabs, for example the Downloads
tab. This is to tell you whether you need to view the Search tab again to
select some new results.
For example, this tab layout (again in stunning ASCII art):
Net(4/4) Uploads(1/5) Downloads(15/20) Search(186,16) Filters Config
where the Search tab is showing 186 results found and 16 new.
With reference to the recent post about the Downloads interface, again I
think we could profitably borrow an idea from LimeWire and improve it,
showing downloads as a table sortable by each column (Status, Speed, %
Done, and so on) and having a progress bar with the percentage, and a
'Details' pane below like the current Fileinfo tab. Again in ASCII art:
-- Active downloads-------------------------------------------------
Filename Host Size Server Progress Status
foo.mp3 162.1 8.5M gtk-gn 40.54% D'loading from 2 hosts (5.4k/s)
bar.mp3 16.2. 7.6M LimeWi 17.08% Queued (slot 7/10)
-- File details -----------------------------------------------------
Filename: foo.mp3
Sources: xx
xx
xx
Aliases: yy
yy
yy
Note that the progress of the file is shown even when the source is not
currently active (this becomes quite useful when you can sort by columns
and you want to see the files closest to 100% complete, for example).
Just my 0.02Mb.
