Hi -
I've seen a couple of people say that gtk+2 is not a supported version.
Could we clarify that? Is it gtk-gnutella that doesn't support it, but which
allows it, or is gtk+2.x considered an unsupported product?

Make sure we are talking about the same thing here:
GTK+1 and GTK+2 are the toolkits used by gtk-gnutella. GTK+1 is the old 1.0 serie, GTK+2 is the new serie. GTK+2 is supported by the GTK folks, however, the interface which gtk-gnutella created which uses the GTK+2 is not maintained anymore.
So, the gtkg gtk2 frontend is not completly considered unsupported, it is unmaintained. Which means there are (well, were actually) some known bugs in the gtkg gtk2 frontend.

The reason I ask, is that I assume the second case to be what's meant,
yet gtk is clearly under constant development on sourceforge, and a bug fix release was just made available a short time ago. That is not what I would call unsupported. They appear to have made significant releases in June, August, and September of this year, and their web site makes no mention of the project being killed.

Yes there are bug fixes made. I will at least try to make the GTK2 interface compile. However, we (the devels, not including the patch writers) don't use the GTK2 interface, and due to lack of time I can't find the time (yeah yeah, sounds logical) to update the GTK2 interface. I don't even have the necesarry tools installed actually.

Would someone then please clarify what is meant by 'gtk2 is unsupported' ??

Unmaintained but not forgotten.

Also for those who really want to run GTKG with the GTK2 frontend, please use the CVS version of 6/11/2003 (see the about box which CVS 'version' you have running). It is almost similair to the 0.93 release however it contains some small bug fixes regarding the GTK2 interface. The assertion bug (refcount == 1) should not be happening anymore, please provide feedback
