I know that downloads can magically reappear which is rather a bug in the
core or maybe the core isn't notified when a download is cancelled so that
it continues to add additional sources.

Well, it's not only that. What I meant is that it leaves the download and
all sources in the TreeView and spits a couple of warnings that it
couldn't find the download in any of the rows and similar. Do you have
those problems as well? You can leave all debug settings at zero to
see those warnings.
