Hi,
You know what I find annoying? The message that another gtk-gnutella client won't share a file with me because my client is too old. I don't like downloaded and compiling new software every month, and don't think that it should be required.
I understand it isn't nice to be forced to use a newer version. However, the development of the gnutella network doesn't stop. Using an old client will prevent the gnutella network from improving, and even worse, it might actually harm the network when an outdated client is used.
The message is displayed to inform you why you might experience bad performance.
You are free to ignore the message of course.
btw: A stable version is 'valid' for at least year, the only exception is the currently released 0.95 which will expire somewhere around december. In the worst case you need to upgrade gtk-gnutella once in 1.5 year.
You are free to do so, however, this isn't decided client side, but locking out is decided server side. The next time I upgrade gtk-gnutella, I will track down the code that locks out other because of their version number, and disable it. I recommend that you do the same to the source code at sourceforge. It's only fair and considerate for you to do so.
