getting the active window

I am currently trying to determine which of several windows is the active window
in my application.  I haven't found anything in the documentation that looks
like it performs this function.  Is there a convience function for getting the
active window?  If not, does anyone have an idea as to how I might go about
doing so?  Thanks in advance.
