Here's a something that I would love to see implemented as GTK widget: http://thorwil.wordpress.com/2007/05/01/fan-sliders/ But information if and how non-rectangular anti-aliased and transparent overlay graphics can be added to a widget without any flickering or other artefacts would be a good start :)
