This is a bit off-topic, but valgrind performance is much better than it used to be. Programs typically run around 5x slower --- less than the performance difference between a netbook and a fast desktop machine. In any case, leak checking is usually an occasional task, so leaving it to run overnight is fine. I've not looked at Purify for years, but i think they offer similar (but with knobs on) functionality under Windows. Perhaps a Purify suppressions file would be the answer?
