I used to get a lot of these messages, until I did a
localedef -i en_US -f ISO-8859-1 en_US
for the default locale, and then others, if you want it:
localedef -i da_DK -f ISO-8859-1 da_DK
localedef -i it_IT -f ISO-8859-1 it_IT
It might be that.
