Although if you are using some sort of module to talk to the LDAP
server, then it really is that module’s job to do this correctly…

        Thank you (and also to Matthias Bläsing by mail) for the answer. I'm
going to search on the Net::LDAP side to understand why the strings
aren't marked correctly.
