Have you tried to compile the data points for the model (if they do not change
vectors)
somthing like this (from the log example):

glMaterialfv (GL_FRONT, GL_AMBIENT_AND_DIFFUSE, mat_blue);

glEnable (GL_CULL_FACE);
glMaterialfv (GL_FRONT, GL_AMBIENT_AND_DIFFUSE, mat_black);
