I have seen that same error on another module myself. I don't understand why
this fixes it, but I'm glad if it does. I'll apply it later today when I am at
my other PC.

  glibmm | build | Ver: 2.20.x
Summary: gmmproc does not like space in _DEFS()
           Product: glibmm
           Version: 2.20.x
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED

gmmproc does not like space in _DEFS()

For example, I have
_DEFS(geglmm, gegl)

And when gmmproc process the file, I get the following errors:

Error: can't read defs file gegl.defs
DocsParser.pm: Warning: Can't read file "./ gegl_docs.xml".

Attached is a patch to fix that.

Bug 586437 actually shows that this code is wrong. If gobjet_ is NULL
TreePath::empty() should return 'true'. Bug 586437 has been fixed in trunk.

Yes. It basically means that the questionable check didn't even work correctly.
