Sorry, I misread things.

Even though C++11 features are used, I agree the -std=c++11 should not
be in the .pc file exactly because of the points we are all agreed on
in this thread.

It seems the Debian packagers are the only "baddies" here. I wonder
what Ubuntu, Mint, etc. do? <rhetorical-question-really/>
