Revelation Hackspace. Thursday. 19:30.

Last Thursday the GUADEC 2010 Local Team met to discuss what was going on in
each activity sector leading up to the conference. Everything is coming
together faster than you'd think! In addition to talking about all the
set-up we need to do before hand (including pre-conferences), we had to find
time and enjoy it ourselves! That's why we got together, barbecued, and
spent the evening talking about all the facets of the conference.

60 speaking sessions, soccer, beach parties, networking events, and wifi
needs for a thousand mobile devices.....

====VOLUNTEERS ==================

A lot of you have been contacting us asking to help. This is COOL! We're not
looking for any Masters of Ceremony or anything, just a couple people to
keep an eye on the time or be an extra pair of hands. Contact Jeroen Dekkers
on the <a href="mailto:[email protected]";>[email protected]</a>
mailing list.

====TECH ==================

Bruce van der Kooij is our networking man on the inside. He is in the
process of controlling network resources, and has some pretty detailed plans
from the venue engineers. We're going to have connectivity for everyone!
(Bring your smartphone!) Bruce is working closely with the Haagse Hogeschool
(http://portal.hhs.nl/portal/page/portal/nl) to also put cameras in each
room for streaming the sessions.

====COMMUNICATIONS ==================

The Communications Team, Sanne, Joe and William, are busy attracting
attention to the GNOME Open Desktop Day (
http://www.guadec.org/index.php/guadec/2010/schedConf/opendesktopday). A
pre-conference on the 26th, representatives from the Spanish region of
Andalucia will come to talk about their government's move to open source,
Steve George from Canonical will talk about large scale implementation, and
Arjen Kamphuis will talk about public open source projects.

====TRAINING ==================

Dave Neary's GNOME Developer training is still open for registration! The
class will dive into all the topics you need to start and manage a
GNOME-based project. Register on the GUADEC page:
https://register.guadec.org/

====SOCIAL ==================

Jeroen van de Vegt is our Party Coordinator, but he means serious business.
Organising a whiskey tasting, a beach party and some sports, he and Sanne
Steemers are also putting together a possibly-Amsterdam possibly-biking
activity for conference SO's (Significant Others). Do you have any
suggestions for more fun we can have? Contact Mr Jeroen and Ms Sanne at <a
href="mailto:[email protected]";>[email protected]</a>

====REGISTERATION ==================

GUADEC will recieve additional financing from the municipality of The Hague
based on the number registered attendees. Some of you may be waiting until
conference day to register, but we are asking that as many participants as
possible register beforehand so that we can maximise the generous offer of
support from the city.

It's easy to do and you can even register for free!

====FINAL WORD ==================

We can't wait to see everyone in just a few weeks! Everyone mentioned here
is on the GUADEC mailing list.

The next volunteer meeting is planned for Sunday, July 18, at the Revelation
hackerspace (https://foswiki.sonologic.nl/RevelationSpace) in Den Haag.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to let us know. Really, we’d
love to hear from you - [email protected]
