I really like the idea of short talks, all in one track, and maybe few keynotes. Though if going for this model I think it is vital to have hacking rooms nearby so the joys of the "hallway track" can be fully exploited. We could reserve one room for "after-talk-discussions", so people deeply interested can go there after the talk and dig a little more.
