I haven't tried that, although I did try to register (not recently) with the official signal app with a landline (voice calls, no sms) and was unsuccessful. Certainly a workaround until something with fewer problematic requirements arrives. > Otherwise, we are looking at adding Telegram and Matrix support, since > those are both relatively easy to add, and can work without a phone > number. > > My hope is that we can make a generic interface for "Notification > Channel" and find a way to support a variety of channels. That makes sense. I hope XMPP is relatively easy, too. It certainly is on Unix to just use a python library, although the way I'm doing it now doesn't have the queuing/offline behavior I want. > We'll be pushing forward on more work here in the coming weeks, so > please continue the suggestions, requests and code! I filed issues for XMPP and Matrix support. I see some code headed to matrix, and #370 for generic sync, but didn't find issues for notifications over XMPP and Matrix. There was already an MQTT issue, with a bunch of FUD, but mostly straightened out in commments. That's not going to work to send images, but is great for integrating with Home Assistant sort of things, which would make it easy to use an old phone/tablet with Haven as an alarm sensor. I added a comment to #370 that multiple methods should be usable in parallel, with a motivating example. (As a crazed idea, there's also disaster.radio and meshtastic with Lora, and if I get to playing with those and have something coherent to say about integration I will -- but for now it is too incoherent to be in the issue tracker or for me to ask anyone else to spend brain cyccles on it.)
