Friends: It's hard to believe that it's been a year since the Installfest, and over a year and a half since our last meeting, but it's true.
I get asked fairly consistently if we still have meetings, and I always give the same response: that our forum exists mostly electronically. I'm starting to become interested again in starting up some projects that we can all contribute to. But as always, if anyone has ideas for meetings (or better yet would like to volunteer to present), please feel free to write [EMAIL PROTECTED] Anyhow, there has been some conversation going on off-list recently about what we should do for our next meeting. We've shared a number of ideas, and I thought that I should get some input from the rest of you. Briefly, here they are: - Hackathon: I really like this idea. Those unfamiliar with the concept, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackathon. - LAN party. Not really on topic, but it has been suggested and would be fun to break the ice and get people together. - Potluck. Bring your favorite dish. Again, just another social event. - Some combination of the 3. ;-) The turnout at the Installfest was a fair number (and thanks again to those that attended!), but not enough to balance the time and effort that it takes to put another one together. If there's significant interest I may change my mind, but as I've stated previously, I think that it would be better all around if GUBUG were to focus on the more advanced user, since Microsoft and Linux have together pretty much cornered the newbie market. ;-) P.S.: Apparently the list was down for a while, which may have contributed to the lack of traffic (I haven't seen any activity for the month of August in the logs). I apologize if you've been trying to post and not having any luck getting through. -- Anthony Chavez Greater Utah BSD User Group mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://gubug.org/
