It's about time we had some traffic on this list...

I've got a freebsd server with a 3ware raid5 card and 4 750GB seagate SATA 
drives. The disk accesses seem to be incredibly slow most of the time, 
which is bad, cause that's its main job. A du of about 500GB of data has 
been running for almost 72 hours now. What are some good ways to test it's 
disk throughput and if possible fix the performance problem(s)?
