Once again November has been a great month with several surprises. First off, Exchange 2010 RTM'd on November the 9th at day one of Microsoft Tech-Ed in Berlin (you can see the announcement here). Secondly, Office 2010 beta 2 bits were made available on both the MSDN and TechNet sites on November 16th, and only a few days later, the bits were also available via the Office 2010 Beta web site. The general public finally had a chance to test this great Office version! Although Office 2010 delivers a lot of great new features, we Exchange fanatics are mostly interested in the Outlook 2010 client right? I have had the opportunity of testing this version for nearly 6 moths now, and I just love it. As some of you might recall, in a previous newsletter on MSExchange.org (found here), I also covered what new features you will expect when connecting to an Exchange 2010 mailbox using Outlook 2010. This was not a final list of features, just a little appetizer of what is to come. In this MSE Newsletter though, I will provide you with a full list of features you get with Outlook 2010, 2007, and 2003 when connecting to an Exchange 2003, 2007, and 2010 mailbox respectively. As you can see, each supported version of Outlook and Exchange is listed in the following table: Table 1 That was all I had to share with you in this MSE Newsletter. See you next month! Ask Henrik Walther a question QUESTION: I'm wondering if there are any technical limitations when combining Exchange 2010 Client Access and Hub Transport server roles on the same server? ANSWER: No this is a fully supported configuration that provides the same feature set as when you separate them on their own server. With regards to high availability, the same rules that applied to Exchange 2007 apply to Exchange 2010. Exchange 2010, can load balance both server roles, as long as you do not load balance internal (intra-org) Hub Transport-Hub Transport traffic (which is automatically load balanced by native Exchange DNS round robin-ish mechanisms). In terms of sizing, you take the number of processor cores in a Mailbox server and deploy an equal number of processor cores in a combo Client Access/Hub Transport server. Let us say that the Mailbox server role has 8 processor cores. In that situation, you would also deploy 8 processor cores in the combo Client Access/Hub Transport server. The memory configuration guidelines are 2GB per core in the combo server. For instance, if the CAS/HUB combo-role has 8 processor cores, you would need 2GB per core, which is 16GB of memory in that server. That's all for this month folks! Till the next one!
