Redknapp rules out swoop for Ashley Young” plus 1 moreHarry Redknapp rules out swoop for Ashley Young Posted: 25 Oct 2010 02:50 PM PDT Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has played down the rumours linking Aston Villa’s Ashley Young with a switch to White Hart Lane. The 25-year-old winger, who has been regularly linked with the London side, has stalled on signing a new deal at Villa Park with manager Gerard Houiller suggesting his head had been turned by a rival side. Redknapp is a known admirer of Young having made previous attempts to sign the England international, but the 61-year-old insists he is no longer interested in the former Watford forward. “We’ve got Gareth Bale – what would I do with him (Young)?” Redknapp asked. “I can’t get Niko Kranjcar on the pitch; he’s a fantastic player. “What am I going to do with another left winger, give myself another headache? He added: “I’m strong in those (wing) positions: I’ve got Aaron Lennon, got Gareth Bale, got Luka Modric who can play off the left. It’s hard enough as it is.” Aston Villa’s Stilian Petrov ruled out for two months Posted: 25 Oct 2010 02:28 PM PDT Aston Villa captain Stilian Petrov has been ruled out for at least two months with a knee injury. The Bulgarian international was hurt during the first half of Villa’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday and newly-appointed manager Gerard Houiller confirmed Petrov may have to undergo knee surgery. “Unfortunately I think we have lost Stilian Petrov for maybe at least two months,” Houllier said. “We will see if he needs an operation or not – we will know that by the middle of the week. It is a shame because he was getting up to a good level. “It was a very unfortunate accident.” The 31-year-old has made 166 appearances for Villa since joining from Celtic in 2006. He was crowned Bulgaria’s Player of the Year in 2005 following an impressive season at Celtic Park.
