looking to land Adriano and Ronaldinho” plus 2 more- Palmeiras looking to land Adriano and Ronaldinho - Barcelona sign £125m shirt deal with Qatar Foundation - Wasps consider moving Harlequins cup clash overseas Palmeiras looking to land Adriano and Ronaldinho Posted: 10 Dec 2010 08:38 AM PST Brazilian side Palmeiras have tabled bids for both Adriano and Ronaldinho, the club’s vice president has revealed. The Sao Paolo side, managed by former Chelsea boss Luis Felipe Scolari, want to strengthen their squad following a disappointing domestic campaign. And Scolari is targeting Roma striker Adriano and AC Milan star Ronaldinho in a bid to bolster the club’s offensive options ahead of the new season. “It is a dream that could well come true, we are already working towards that, both Adriano and Ronaldinho,” said club vice president Salvador Hugo Palaia. “The two will be difficult, but we will try every measure possible to bring one or both of them in. The proposals have already been made.” The news comes after reports surfaced claiming that Liverpool had made an enquiry over a possible move for Ronaldinho. At the time, Reds midfielder Lucas Leiva commented: “It would be great to play with him at Liverpool. “Everyone knows Ronaldinho’s quality and what he can do. Without doubt it would be a great boost for us.” Barcelona sign £125m shirt deal with Qatar Foundation Posted: 10 Dec 2010 08:23 AM PST Barcelona have signed their first ever commercial shirt sponsorship deal after agreeing a record £125m contract with the Qatar Foundation. News of the five-year deal, which will be worth £25m a year from next season, follows an audit this summer that revealed the Catalan giants' debt to be £369.5m after the La Liga club posted a loss of over £64m last season. The Spanish league leaders have been paying Unicef to carry the children charity’s logo on their shirts and will continue to do so next season, with the Qatar Foundation’s emblem set to be displayed alongside it. A Barcelona statement read: "Qatar Foundation will join Unicef on the Barça’s team’s shirts as part of the agreement and over the next month the new look logo will be designed and presented. Nike will then be able to include the design on the front of the kit for next season." The Qatar Foundation is a non-profit organisation which mainly deals with developing education projects in the Middle East. It is chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, the wife of the Emir, who was central to Qatar's final 2022 World Cup bid last week. Barça executives said the deal was "a remarkable milestone because it represents a record level of revenue for a football club and has more value still in the current economic climate”. Wasps consider moving Harlequins cup clash overseas Posted: 10 Dec 2010 04:09 AM PST Wasps are looking into the possibility of moving next month’s LV Cup fixture against Harlequins overseas. The game, which is currently scheduled to take place at Adams Park on 30 January, would be the first competitive fixture featuring English sides to take place abroad. Abu Dhabi is understood to be the venue being considered for the clash. Although no agreement has yet been reached, the move would signal the possibility of more games being held overseas in the future. “The club are looking into plans around this fixture but at this stage nothing is set in stone,” read a Wasps statement. “The club are in consultation with the Rugby Football Union, LV and Harlequins. “We are always keen to find ways to be innovative and extend the footprint of the club, while promoting the sport, but at this time nothing is agreed.” The move resembles proposals of a 39th game in football’s Premier League, a concept which was quickly dismissed, however the commercial appeal of playing a fixture such as this overseas could prove difficult to turn down. Rugby fans have already seen fixtures move to neutral grounds in the UK, with the London double-header now firmly placed in the calendar.
