The transition from the lambda to the arc of the stylised “G” is very harsh, though. It’s a very sharp edge and I prefer the friendly “roundness” of Luis’s logo.
Funny, as my initial sketches had one flowing curve instead of a hard bend. I moved away from that, at it made both the G and the lambda harder to recognise. I will try rounding it out a bit.
Also, the lambda and “Guile” don’t seem to relate to one another; they just sit next to each other, whereas in the logo on the left the stylised parentheses “cooperate” with the text in that the embrace the curve of the “G”.
I could likely improve on that with custom font, but that takes a lot of time, so the symbol should be nailed down, first.
I think the logo on the left could be improved by fixing the right part of the round “G” and by adding a serif to the “l” (to reduce the gap between “l” and “e”).
The thing is, if you adjust the G to have that hook it has in so many fonts, it will work better with "uile", but sit less well alone in the (implied) circle.
Thanks to you and Taylan, this is feedback one can work with :) -- Thorsten Wilms thorwil's design for free software: http://thorwil.wordpress.com/
