The decision to include zfs-on-linux, but not provide substitutes, was
made long ago.

Then there was a discussion in this very thread where I think (but I
don’t remember precisely) there was consensus on not having GNOME depend
on zfs-on-linux, because that’s just inconvenient as everyone would have
to build zfs-on-linux from source.

As for raid5atemyhomework’s patches, it’s just that reviewing such
patches takes time, a number of round trips, and that it’d be better to
get input from zfs-on-linux users.  I don’t think the patches change
anything to the initial decision above.

When consensus cannot be met, maintainers have the last say.

But again, my understanding is that there’s no new decision to be made
here.

Rather, there’s review work to be completed—Maxime already did a lot of
that—and commitment from ZFS-savvy people to maintain it going forward.
