The decision to include zfs-on-linux, but not provide substitutes, was made long ago. Then there was a discussion in this very thread where I think (but I don’t remember precisely) there was consensus on not having GNOME depend on zfs-on-linux, because that’s just inconvenient as everyone would have to build zfs-on-linux from source. As for raid5atemyhomework’s patches, it’s just that reviewing such patches takes time, a number of round trips, and that it’d be better to get input from zfs-on-linux users. But again, my understanding is that there’s no new decision to be made here.
