Hey! I've now merged the most recent batch [1] of changes to the process for managing patches and branches. There was a previous thread on guix-devel discussing the changes here [2].

There's also more guidance on how to manage branches smoothly. This mostly applies to people with commit access, but people without commit access can also lead the work on the branch.
