Hi,
As everyone on this list knows the GNU Guix project has a continuous
need for funding to pay for the project's infrastructure and development.
We're looking at ways to fundraise to make Guix sustainable. This is
email is to tell you about it, and ask for your support.
Previously, we've been using up a large donation from 2018 [0]. But,
that's not going to last forever so we need to increase our fundraising
activity and ask our community for their support.
In the summer we rebooted the Guix Foundation and we're going to launch
a donation drive over the coming days.
It's worth summarising what we spend money on. We're lucky that the Max
Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine hosts all of ci.guix.gnu.org.
Everything else is paid for by the project.
Our critical expenses to cover other build infrastructure, substitute
servers and development services is about 6.5k EUR a year. The project
is growing and there's only increasing demand to scale. So really the
fundraising goal is 15,000 EUR a year (circa 11.5k USD).
One thing to note is it's not just a one-off need. We need a recurring
donation stream that the project can rely on if we're to be sustainable.

The next step that's underway is to revamping the Guix Donate page and
then I'll be creating some posts to fully launch the fundraising
campaign. I expect to do that in the next few days.
It would be great if you can spread the word when that happens. Both to
explain _why_ there's a need (and what we spend money on), and to
encourage people to support us.
