is it possible to cross-compile a kernel for use with "guix

‘guix deploy’ only supports native builds right now, though
adding
support for cross-compilation Shouldn’t Be Hard™.
Cross building the whole system won't easily work because not all
build systems support it. I wonder if it would be of general
interest to just allow for the kernel to be cross-built. I'm
not sure where to add it. There are arguments for adding support
in the operating system configuration, but also arguments for
keeping this in the machine record used by "guix deploy".
I want to deploy to a slow aarch64-linux board, but building
the
kernel locally on my laptop via qemu binfmt is extremely slow.
On the
target board it runs out of memory, so that's not an option
either.
The other option is to pick one of the kernels that get built by
CI for
AArch64. That way, it’s still all native, but you don’t have to
build
it yourself.
Yeah, unfortunately that's not an option in my case. I needed to
change the kernel configuration to add a few features that are
needed for my use of the board as a home server, i.e. SPDIF
output, wireguard, PCIe + SCSI for extra disks, etc.
