Goans celebrate Easter By Ben Garcia / Kuwait Times In connection with the recent Christian festival of Easter, the United Indian Curtorcares in Kuwait organised a musical programme "Easter Nite 2004" yesterday. A visiting troupe "The Stepping-Stone and the Soul Shaker" sang to a large audience throughout a night filled with live music, boogie dancing and jazz music until daybreak. The highlight of the event was the crowing of the most beautiful woman from Goa, which was announced by the guest of honour Francisco Sardina, a member of the Goan legislative assembly, who is currently on a visit to the country. Speaking on the occasion, Sardina could not hide his delight and surprise at the huge gathering of Goans in Kuwait. "This is the best time to celebrate and be with our own people outside India, I am glad to be here," he said. On his part, Agnelo Rebello, the secretary general of Curtorcares in Kuwait, said, "Basically this is a gathering of Indian people regardless of religion, we want to share the blessings and happiness with everyone". According to Rebello, this is the first time Goan community gathered to celebrate Easter in Kuwait. He pointed out that Curtorcares was established to encourage people in various sporting activities, which could help them build a healthy lifestyle. "We are encouraging our people to get involved in sports activities. We have regular cricket and football games for members," he said.
