Govt props Hema Sardesai to �sell� Goa at Cannes?
PANJIM, MAY 5 � BY HERALD REPORTER
� Noted pop singer Hema Sardesai will belt out famous
numbers from Dil Chahate Hai, Bobby and other
box-office hits at Cannes in France later this month
where the State government intends to market Goa as
the permanent venue for International Film Festival of
India (IFFI).
The Goa-born singer will be part of the Goa delegation
likely to be in Canes from May 16-18. The programme
however is tentative and subject to clearances from
the union ministry of information
and broadcasting (I&B) and external affairs ministry,
a senior bureaucrat told Herald.
Initially, the Power Minister, Digamber Kamat was to
lead the delegation but according to sources he has
expressed his inability to go due to some family
function.
Now, the delegation will tentatively be headed by the
Transport Minister, Pandurang Madkaikar. Goa is likely
to have its own stall there. Sources said the
delegation will consist of around eight members.
Last year, the Goa delegation to Canes was led by the
Health Minister, Dr Suresh Amonkar.
On May 18, the state government will present �Goa
Evening� where Hema Sardesai will perform for 25
minutes.
