"EDOSHA PANAM": We call them "ADDOXEACHIM PANAM". In
Konkani "Addo" means mud compound wall. Since the
plant was planted at such walls, it was called
"Addosso". Hence, "Addoxeachim panam".

Correct, it is called Addoxeachim Panam.
We have it in my aframent but not against the compound
wall as well as in our jardin !
This particular shrub (plant) was in high demand
and some decades ago, the poder early in the morning,
the nisteakar at mid-day, the postman in the
afternoon, and the neighbours or a tired labourer
(mannai) at dusk would venture into our property just
to say 'bab boro asai?' and on their way back after a
brief tit-a-tat (time pass) would pluck a bunch of
leaves and say 'dev borem korum' and excitingly walk
away!
Noting their facial expressions one would imagine them
as if saying 'Eureka, we found it found'!

Now that you have reminded, will have a hot, hot
shower of the Addoxeachim Panam and would also
recommend some to Goans who need to cleanse themselves
from 'nirdukai' (jealousy).

under his much awaited weekly 'Aitaracheo Kaskuleo'
column. Will watch and wait.
