Dubai, Sept 22: The countdown has begun, just 9 more days to go. The Konkan stars have started descending into Dubai. St. Mary�s Konkani Community (SMKC) Dubai, the premium association of the United Arab Emirates, working under the holistic banner of St. Mary�s Church Dubai was ready to welcome the first batch of artists flown in today at Dubai International airport.
Henry D�souza, Zeena D'Almeida and Theodore Alvares (trumpet player) arrived on 21 September 2004 at around 8.00 PM by Air India flight 717 and the Main Co-ordinator Noel Mascarenhas, Public Relations Coordinator, Hubert Aranha, Secretary � Frenny Fernandes along with the other core Committee members Helen Monteiro, Marina Menezes and Prajval Colaco were there to receive the artists for KONKAN SHOWERS 2004 at the airport.
Henry D�souza, a simple and loving natured person, was his own self without any airs of conquering the konkani music world with his famous compositions and singing. When asked by one of the member about his feelings, he uttered � �Yes, this is my fifth visit to Dubai and I am already feeling at home here. I have performed earlier but I am eagerly looking forward to performing for the bigger event � "KONKAN SHOWERS 2004" scheduled on 30 September 2004�. The smiling Zeena D�Almaida was excited and uttered � �It would be great to perform with such big stars on a big venue for a big crowd organized by the most talked about association in town � SMKC Dubai�. She hails from Angelore, Mangalore and has been singing since the age of 15. She was trained by Melvyn Peiris and Sr. Irene for vocals and has now stormed the stage with her golden voice. She was happy that she has someone of her own close by - a married sister living in Sharjah. Theodore Alvares, the quiet unassuming person, had visited Dubai on previous 3 � 4 occasions and is sure to blow the trumphet to his glorious pitches. Wait and see until Thursday. The Crooner of all melodious Konkani numbers, Ronald D�cunha, will arrive from Kuwait on Thursday. The singing Queen, Dr. Aparna Mayekar will be in Dubai on Saturday followed by the Bollywood Mimicry artist � Mr. Navin Prabhakar. The core committee�s members have been working for months to bring forward this mega event � the SMKC venture � something that never happened before! �It will be a memorable and promising evening filled with fun and frolic for young and old� says Helen Monteiro, one of the committee member, in her usual laughing tone. Frenny and Marina quip in saying � �Yes, the crowd is lucky as there are so many gifts and giveaways to take home�. Many leading airlines - Cathay pacific, Jet Airways Gulf Air, Swiss International Airlines.. have contributed air tickets, and the business houses have given electronic items such as Home Theatre systems, cordless phones, mobiles to entice the crowd to participate. Ronald Olivera and Shobana will be anchoring this big show� KONKAN SHOWERS 2004� on Thursday, 30 September 2004. Until next, hold your breath� more exciting news to follow!
