Bandra Fair opens on high note

MORE than 1,500 people turned out for the opening of a two-day Bandra Fair last night, at the Delmon International Hotel's poolside. The event, organised by the Young Goans Club in association with the hotel, took off with one of India's top bands, Tidal Wave, from Goa, performing at the September Garden. Compere for the evening was Brian Dias and support group was the band Night Shades, from Bahrain. The fair will continue from 3pm today with five bands performing. Tidal Wave will be joined by Filipino bands Atomic Sensation and Wall Freak. Russian band Splash and Bahrain band Rhythm. Traditional sweets and original Feni have been flown in from Bombay and Goa for the event, which features 30 stalls for games, raffles, food and garments. Club president Cassius Pereira said it was a wonderful opportunity for Goan fans to see their favourite band. Novelty dances, spot prizes, food stalls and Goan delicacies are also on offer. Club members must drop their updated membership cards at the gate for a membership draw, where gold prizes are lined up. A fashion show and cultural programmes from various Indian clubs will be an added attraction. Event sponsors are African & Eastern, Batelco, Power Horse, Coca-Cola, Tylos Hotel and Al Jazira Cold Stores. Entrance tickets will be BD1 per person.
