Unforgettable evening !!!

Young and old gathered at the big venue on the long awaited evening of 30 September 2004 to witness the most awaited and talked about event in town. "Konkan Showers 2004" charity gala evening will be in the annals of Konkani history in the UAE in a way that never happened before. The all time super stars had descended into Dubai last week. They came, they saw and they conquered not just the venue but the hearts and minds of the crowds.
It proved to be a runaway success with the steering wheel at the strong hands of SMKC
Dubai Committee members as Organizers under the spiritual guidance of Fr. Cyprian D'souza (Spiritual Director of SMKC Dubai) and Mr. Noel Mascarenhas (Main Coordinator of SMKC Dubai). Need witness? The gala night commenced with Ronald Olivera, the anchor for the Konkan Showers 2004, welcoming the guests. Mr. Lawrence D'Souza led all with a short prayer. Fr. Cyprian D'Souza delivered the introductory address followed by a short brief of SMKC Dubai by Mr. Noel Mascarenhas. The occasion was graced by Fr. P. M.
Peter (Parish Priest) & Fr. Joy (of St. Mary�s Church Dubai, Fr. Thomas of Jebel Ali Church, the good will Sponsors and well wishing crowd.
The Showers turned into lightning as the audience began looking for Ronald D�cunha who was missing on the stage yet he was heard singing �SWAPNA SUNDARI�. It was at this time that our camera captured him right there as you would see below!
Then on, the Showers of Music rained down on the audience followed by �Suzanna� number. Our graceful singer, Dr. Aparna Mayekar, was in a fix as she came to the stage for her performance! Guess what! She had to decide as to whom she should give her heart to! That is what it means with the song "MUJE KALIZ KONAK DINCHE".
Shobana Chandramohan came in as �dream gal� singing in Konkani and then joining Ronald Olivera as Co-hostess. Petite, Zeena D�almeida with her charm took to stage for the next duet "KUL KULO" (Shivering). Well that had nothing to do with temperature or atmosphere but something to do with love chemistry song with Ronald.
Even though the temperature at the Al Nasr Leisureland Ice Rink was -0 deg C it turned to be �HOT HOT�. Yes the lady in red, sweet Angelina, who literally raised the temperatures with her solo �CHEDUN BOMBAICHE�. Later Shri. Henry D' Souza rendered his emotional number �Sylvia� which had the audience spellbound to their chair.
Oh, my, the comedy queen, Succrine, then came with her action packed song �MAI CHALI� even though she was not reluctant to leave the stage for the next 10 minutes. "West breeze" provided the background music with no flaws and it continued with the artists exhibiting their dancing skills in addition to their voices on stage until it was time for the short felicitation programme organised for the Main Sponsor � Fineline Advertising LLC, Co-sponsors and Benefactors who were presented with a memento for life time treasure.
CGS Taccode�s book �Haai, Haai, Dubai� was released by Fr. Cyprian D'Souza. CGS Taccode is a well known writer and a big time contributor to Konkani language. It was quickly followed by grand lucky draws and results on �Predict & Win�, �Click & Win�, �Enter & Win� contest published in the previous articles and many walked with Air tickets, Home theatres, Mixer, Juicers, Mobile phones and gifts galore. Naveen Prabhakar, the mimicry artist from Bollywood, who imitated the voices of various heroes of Bollywood entertained the crowd.
There was pin drop silence during his act and everyone was amazed with such rare talents. With the second part came with sortie of music which included songs such as ANJALINA (solo by Rony), Bhanghar thu Mujen (Duet by Rony and Anjalina), Chandrem Udevn Ailo, Sobith Sobith Rupne again a duet by Shri Henry D'Souza and Dr. Aparna Mayekar. Vegenth Dorun and Zar Maka by Rony and the crowd could not resist getting to the dancing floor.
Can you guess the Barbie Girl of the event? Yes, it was not a babe but our big doll � Succrine who astonished the crowd with her fabulous comedian acts. The English Band �mp3� pulled more youngsters to the front stage. The slow Konkani medley brought more swaying partners with glittering stars and hearts around their necks and hands creating the huge arena with the large crowd like the stars shining on a beautiful heavenly night.
The most awaiting song of the evening � �Ye, Ye Kathrina� a mixed duet by Shri Henry and Dr. Aparna simply left the crowd asking for more. �Ye Re Sinjora� and more Konkani medley songs were rendered to the hilarious crowd dancing the night away to the thunderous sound, music and light. Thus the spectacular and pulsating evening came to an end with the Baila session and so did �Konkan Showers 2004� at sharp 2.45 AM.
