Checking Social Evils
AS one goes through the daily newspapers, it becomes
clear that Goa, over the period, has gained notoriety
in almost all areas be it in crimes, robberies,
accidents, cheating and above all, the dirty politics.
Things are slowly but surely turning to worse for the
Goans with the advent of more and more housing
colonies mushrooming all over Goa. Who actually
deserves to be housed in these colonies? Do Goans
really need to live life in these colonies? Or are
Goans finding themselves lost into their own
motherland? This day may not be too far away, given
the circumstances and instances that our disgraceful
politicians promote their will upon the people. I
appreciate and congratulate the people of Curtorim and
Cuncolim for opposing the proposed housing colonies in
their vicinity. Never should our greedy and
unscrupulous politicians be trusted, now that every
Goan knows their lust for power and money. It�s an
open secret why the old junk of politicians never
wants to quit. The people should not forget that the
politicians in the last 25 years have been working
overtime for their self aggrandizement. As for the
housing colonies, they are nothing but the vote banks
of the politicians. For instance, the Nagoa village in
Salcete, has experienced the influx of migrant workers
to some extent. Things are a bit tolerable as of date,
but may be very soon the villagers will have to think
twice and decide for themselves how good is the
situation around. Nevertheless, some people and civic
body improve their coffers to a great extent to meet
their economic ends. A few might be running the
successful businesses in their compound, and making a
quick buck for their family welfare, but if one
ponders beyond the corridors, the village will soon
turn out to be full filth and stink to an unhygienic
living. There is bound to be some social unrest in the
near future. Add to this, the overgrowing industrial
estate nearby, which is more inclined to milking the
subsidies than serving as a real employment generator,
further aggravates the problem.
