Margao Oct 30: In order to raise funds for a soccer ground at Navelim, the authorities at the Rosary Church have planned to organise a 3-day food festival from November 12 to 14. Addressing a press conference at the parish residence, the parish priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Fr Jose Antonio Costa, stated that Navelim is the largest and heavily populated parish of the state. He said that it is closer to the Margao city with railroad and other transport facilities.
Fr Costa revealed that the village caters to educational facilities to 55675 students coming from all corners of the state. �We have here arts, commerce, science, BBA, BCA and vocational namely computer, health care, catering, high school, primary and pre-primary schools,� he added.
Fr Costa also disclosed that thousands of devotees and around 1500 catechism children attend the religious services and participate in multiple activities. He said that generosity of the villagers, well-wishers and benefactors has also helped in the construction of gardens around the campus.
The parish priest said that the soccer ground needs green grass and all other required facilities like rooms for indoor activities, toilets and other facilities. He said the work was in progress and expected to be completed by the end of May 2005.
In order to raise funds for the said project, Fr Costa said that the parish church has planned to organise the 3-day food festival coinciding with the novenas of Our Lady of Rosary. �It will be a healthy family affair with music, food, entertainment for children, youth, families and senior citizens,� he added.
