Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar said that circuits can be developed between the states of Goa, Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra for improvement in their tourism industry.
He stated this on 14th November,2004 while inaugurating the Head office of the Bharathi Tourism Development Cooperative (BTDC) Ltd, a multi-state societyof Sahakar Bharathi, in the city. This writer who visited the Kerala, Karnataka, Vasai (Bassein) in Maharashtra found several places of interest which have a strong link to the Portuguese rule in Goa and which will interest the native Goan in India and abroad and also Indian and western tourist In Cochin the tomb of Vasco-da-Gama then at Calicut or Khozikode (the present name ) the Kappad beach where Vasco da Gama landed first and met the Zamorin of Calicut in 1498 , the Anjediv island near Karnataka where the Portuguese set foot and left it on 22 December, 1961 besides some parts of Vassai which has a rich tradition of Portuguese remanants . To begin with this year during the Exposition of sacred relicts of St Francis Xavier it is hoped that the Chief Minister will interact with the Naval authorities Sea Bird to enable them visit the Anjediv Islands to see the Martyrs Memorial atop the fort and the Church of Our lady of Brotas. >From Karwar one can travel via Konkan Railway and Southern Railway from Karwar to Khozikode and then beyond to Cochin or take a flight from Karipur Airport (Khozikode )visit the other Portuguese destinations. They could drop Vasai in their itenary for the moment until a better circuit and an economical package is finalised.
