Panaji, Dec 19, 2004: Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar today claimed that his government would make every effort to eradicate unemployment from the state within two years, and announced that the Year 2005 will be observed as �Berojgar Mukt Voros� � unemployment-free year.
Speaking on the occasion of the 43rd Goa Liberation Day at a state function organised at Campal Parade Ground here this morning, Mr Parrikar said the government was committed to eradicate unemployment in the state.
Earlier, the Chief Minister unfurled the national tricolour in the presence of a large number of citizens, the state legislative assembly Speaker, Mr Viswas Satarkar, cabinet ministers, legislators, senior bureaucrats, freedom fighters and school children.
Delivering his address in Konkani, Mr Parrikar highlighted the development works and schemes undertaken by his government during the last four years, especially Dayanand Social Security Scheme, and informed that there were nearly 60,000 beneficiaries of the DSSS.
Stating that his government also prioritises on education and health sectors, the Chief Minister said the government had sanctioned Rs 115 crore for upgradation of the Goa Medical College Hospital, Bambolim. The works running into Rs 25 crore had already been started, he informed.
�Within next two year government would upgrade the GMC,� he informed.
He announced that a special infrastructure scheme would be introduced in January 2005, and all the KTC bus stands in the state would be modernised. He said new industrial policy had been formulated, and the bio-technology policy would be finalised soon.
Mr Parrikar claimed that Goa had been making good progress in the tourism sector for the last three years and added that the government would strive to transform Goa in all sectors.
The Chief Minister stated that certain elements did not appreciate the good work done by his government, and were trying to misguide the people. He appealed the people not to fall prey to such elements.
A contingent drawn from the police, fire service, home guards, NCC and school children participated in the parade and gave a guard of honour to the Chief Minister. The children of St Mary�s High School, Mapusa, presented a mass physical display on the tunes of Vande Mataram, which was directed by Ms Shashi Hanchinmani. St Joseph High School, Margao, presented another display based on a patriotic song in Konkani called Jai Bharata under the direction of Ms Manik Keny in which 260 children participated.
Schools from all talukas were selected for the state-level parade. The Chief Minister presented the best farmer award to Mr Prakash Bali from Sangolda, Bardez, while the best horticulturist award was presented to Mr Pratapsing alias Balasaheb Abasaheb Rane of Latambarcem, Bicholim.
The President�s police medal was awarded to police inspectors, Mr Manjunath Naik Dessai and Mr Dhinraj Govenkar. Besides, special awards were given to the deputy inspector general of police, Mr Muktesh Chander and Mr Vinayak Umerye for their acts of bravery in saving life.
Mr Mukesh Thali compered the function.
