Panjim, Jan 4, 2005: The noted Goan playwright and stage director, Dilipkumar Naik died at Ponda, after a brief illness. He was 45.
Late Naik was closely linked to the stage along with his father late Vishwanath Naik, who had established Hans Sangeet Mandal, a company dedicated to the stage productions, and three brothers.
The talented stage artist will be best remembered for his productions Dhamal Goa and its sequel Goa re Goa. Both these plays presented the situations prevailing in the state, in a folk theatre style.
His other productions include Ratr Pavsachi, Aaj Sair Bhair and Sanvar, the last one based on the Goan freedom struggle. Late Naik had also directed a number of other Marathi and Konkani plays.
A wreath was placed on the mortal remains of late Naik on behalf of the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, while the funeral was attended by the Canacona MLA, Mr Vijay Pai Khot, president of Gomantak Marathi Academy, Mr Pandurang Nagvekar, president of Goa Konkani Akademi, Mr Pundalik Naik and the member secretary of Kala Academy, Dr Pandurang Phaldessai, amongst others. He is survived by mother, wife and a daughter.
