Skybus completes successful test run

After the initial hiccup in September last year, the skybus� successful test run was done on Friday at Margao, Goa.
During its first test run last year, the skybus met with an accident, killing one official and injuring three others. The accident occurred when it turned on a curve.
�The coach swerved and skidded because someone had greased the curve. Water had deposited on the rail table, causing the accident. The combination of grease with water aggravated the problem,� said Konkan Railway�s managing director, B Rajaram.
�Steps are being taken to avoid steep curves and enable the skybus to take a turn with the help of a traverser.�
The skybus is Rajaram�s brainchild. He had first presented a paper on the project at University of Bolgna, Italy, in 1989.
He started developing the technology when he took over as the managing director of Konkan Railway.
Rajaram retires on Januay 31, before
which he wishes to secure a safety certification for skybus, based on suburban railway system. | |
