New Indian school will offer holistic education
Staff Reporter/Gulf Times

QATAR will get a new Indian educational institution
when Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS), described as a
concept school, opens in April.

Global Education Management Systems (GEMS), a member
of the Dubai-based Varkey Group, and Qatars Taleb
Group have signed agreements in this regard.

DMIS, a co-educational institution, is the third
joint venture school in Doha of GEMS and Taleb Group,
a Taleb Group official said yesterday.

The new school will function from a purpose-built
facility on a 22,000sq m plot near Abu Hamour Petrol
Station.

DMIS, which is to offer the Central Board of Secondary
Education curriculum, will have classes from
kindergarten to Class VII initially.

The two existing Taleb-GEMS joint venture schools are
Cambridge School Doha, which opened in 2002, and
Cambridge International School for Girls, which opened
last year, both teaching the National Curriculum for
England.

DMIS, managed by GEMS, will be a unique day boarding
school, providing opportunities for students to
explore their potential in numerous ways, the
official explained.

Special infant care facilities will be provided for
children from KG to Class II, after school hours.

Students at primary level will have no homework, as
the school is to incorporate supervised study time
into the days schedule.

Extra-curricular activities will cover a wide range of
indoor and outdoor sports including swimming, tennis,
gymnastics, skating and other activities.

An added attraction is the convenience in timing for
working parents who could drop children while going to
office and pick them up while returning home, the
official said.

GEMS and Varkey Group chairman Sunny Varkey said in a
statement that there is a growing need in the region
for education that combines the right infrastructure
and expertise to provide motivational learning
environments for children.

The new joint venture of GEMS with the Taleb Group
further strengthens GEMS commitment to providing
students and parents in Qatar with high standards of
quality education and service, he added.

Taleb Group managing director Mohamed Taleb al-Khoury
said DMIS has been designed to offer a holistic
education with every opportunity for students to
develop their potential.

DMIS has been modelled on the successful Dubai Modern
High School.

GEMS has a track record of delivering a range of
curricula to international standards, allowing todays
global family to move seamlessly across countries and
their home environments without loss of knowledge or
undue stress on their children, the official said.

The GEMS-appointed advisory board includes eminent
international educationalists who provide specialist
expertise, advice and support in all aspects of
education.

DMIS will be the fifth GEMS-managed school in Doha,
including the two Cambridge schools. The two others
are the Al Khor International Schools Indian and
British streams.

GEMS manages a growing network of nearly 50
international schools in the Middle East, the UK,
Europe, North America and India, catering to almost
50,000 students from around the world.

GEMS benefits from almost 40 years of expertise in
the field of education and is experienced in a variety
of curriculum including the National Curriculum for
England, the International Baccalaureate Programme and
American and Indian curricula, the official added.

DMIS will be the sixth Indian school in Doha and the
seventh in Qatar. The other Indian schools in Doha are
MES, Ideal, Shantiniketan, DPS-Modern and Birla Public
School. The lone Indian school outside Doha is Al Khor
International Schools Indian Stream. More information
on DMIS can be had from Tel 4660041 or 5872084.
