Benaulim hopes Pacheco joining BJP will usher in
development

Margao Jan 28: The decision to induct the Benaulim
MLA, Mr Micky Pacheco and the executive committee of
United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP-M) in the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come as a surprise
for the people of his constituencyA retired government
employee from Benaulim, Mr Arnaldo Rodrigues feigning
ignorance at the development said that he had no
objection to Mr Pacheco joining the BJP. �He might
have thought by joining the BJP he would be able to
complete the pending developmental works in his
constituency,� he said.
As the entire family always supported the Congress
party, Mr Rodrigues said that he was not in favour of
Mr Pacheco joining the BJP. However, he had supported
him in the last elections, as he wanted a change.
A teacher of Betalbatim, Mr Augusto Soares blindly
opposed the decision taken by Mr Pacheco of joining
the BJP. He alleged that the BJP is communal and
predicted that it had no future in Benaulim
constituency. Mr Soares said he was always in favour
of a secular party and would continue supporting the
Congress party. �Our MLA was with the secular party
but now we do not know what are his plans by joining
the BJP,� he added.
A former dramatist of Utorda, Mr Pascoal Rebello
expressed surprise when informed that Mr Pacheco had
joined the ruling party. He expressed hope for some
development to take place and said that Mr Pacheco had
taken up various developmental works in his
constituency even when he was thrown out of the
government. Supporting the BJP will help him in
completing the pending works, he added.
A mechanic of Betalbatim, Mr Anthony Fernandes
expressed happiness when informed that the Benaulim
MLA had joined the BJP. He said that there were many
developmental works to be undertaken in the village
and the recent move would definitely help in
accomplishing them shortly with the support of the
government. Irrespective whether the BJP is communal,
Mr Fernandes said that as long as developmental works
are carried out successfully, the party needs to be
supported by the people.
