Goa will be in a carnival mood from February 5. Viva Carnival � the most popular festival of the state� will have the state witnessing four days of extravaganza, fun and frolic. Colourful processions and lavish floats parade will mark the streets of the state. There will be masked people, fancy dresses, and singing and dancing galore too.
Reliance Infocomm, India�s largest mobile service provider, in association with hosts Panaji Festivals & Carnival Committee will add more colours to the carnival with various interactive activities.
Reliance Infocomm, as sponsors, will dress up the Queen MOMO float. For the first time in the history of carnival, Reliance Infocomm will make available complete information and trivia of the festival to people across India through its unique java-based application �R World�. The easy menu driven �R World� application will provide background and history of the carnival, photos and video
clips of the previous year and a complete schedule of this year�s event.
Reliance Infocomm will also run a contest through �R World� for Reliance IndiaMobile (RIM) subscribers who can win attractive prizes. �R World� is available on almost every RIM handsets and is currently free of cost.
A signature campaign �Clean Panaji, Green Panaji� will be held at carnival locations and at Panaji Reliance WebWorld (Near Kala Academy). Residence of Goa and the tourists can pledge their support to the �Clean Panaji, Green Panaji� campaign.
On February 6, Reliance WebWorld will host a drawing competition for school children on the �Viva Carnival� theme. Winners will be announced through R World.
Commenting on Reliance Infocomm�s participation in the Carnival, Mr. Dinesh Gulati, Business Head, Maharashtra & Goa circle said, �We are delighted to be part of the age old Viva Carnival this year. We feel that the carnival atmosphere should be shared across the country

Mr. Ashok M Naik, Mayor of Panaji and Chairman of the Panaji Festivals & Carnival Committee said, �This year the Carnival will be flagged off at 3.30 p.m. on February 5 with King Momo and Queen Momo�s parade in Panaji. The King Momo�s parade later will also be held in Margaon on February 6, in Vasco on February 7, and Mapusa on February 8.
Other programmes of the carnival include a Mini Carnival and Fancy Dress Competition, Alcatraz (Band) & African Dance on February 6, Belly dance performance by International artists along with Band �Lace�, Seby (the Wings from New Delhi), and Miss Melque & Band performances on February 7.
The last day
will feature a performance by Olavo Pop Star and his troupe, a Fashion Show and a performance by Ukrainian dancers.
One of the most popular festivals of India, the Viva Carnival, had its birth in Goa during the era of King Momo. He ushered in the carnival just before the Lent season (the period of fasting and penance in the Christian calendar and corresponding somewhat to the Mohammedan fast before Ramzan Id). This festival of Goa usually starts off on Sabado Gordo (Fat Saturday) and concludes on Shrove Tuesday (Fat Tuesday)-the eve of Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of the season of Lent. Preparations for this grand carnival begin in late December or early January.
